Recently, celebrities have been revealing their weight. But some folks are chiming in that weight doesn't matter.
Fashion blogger, Jessica Kane, keeps it real on her blog, telling critics that weight doesn't matter and that being plus size and wearing a swimsuit is not "brave."
Jessica writes, “THIS WAS NOT BRAVE. I've been told how brave I am for not having a coverup, but going with out a wrap would only take bravery if I cared what others thought of me, but I don’t.”
“I spend my time worrying about things I CAN control and this day, I was only thinking about how fab I felt and how much sun I was catching,” she adds.
And Jessica doesn’t leave it at that. She schools her haters on what it really means to be brave:
“Things that DO take bravery? A family battling tragic illness, a mother trying to beat addiction, a person trying to break free of domestic violence, reaching out for help when you have already planned your suicide and feel like you can't breath one more day. THAT is brave. Not wearing a swimsuit at the beach. LIVE life and only worry about what really matters."
Jessica is right. Wearing a swimsuit, no matter how large or small you are, is never brave. It’s normal.
Suggesting that Jessica is “brave” is code for she should feel ashamed, which is a common sentiment in our culture, which values appearances over all else. Luckily, she doesn’t seem to be in the mood to take that sh*t.
We don’t think you are brave, Jessica. We think you are fabulous for speaking the truth.
