Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta now live, runs through January 18

After a short teaser beta for Xbox One preview program (what even is a console beta these days), the big show has arrived. Microsoft confirmed that the Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta will be starting today. Those who have purchased Halo: The Master Chief Collection can jump into the beta starting now. Don't feel rushed, however, because this isn't a short beta. It will be running from now until January 18 -- a full three weeks.

This isn't some small, one map with one game mode type of beta either. Though maybe that would have been cool too. No, this Halo 5: Guardians beta will include seven maps, three game types and its unlock system of unlocks for armor and such. The unlocks even carry over, I guess. Maybe folk can translate this a bit better than I can:

"Halo: Nightfall and Halo: The Master Chief Collection content unlocked in the Halo 5: Guardians Multiplayer Beta can be carried over to Halo 5: Guardians when it officially launches in fall 2015."

Somehow, some type of content can be carried over into Halo 5, though it may actually be Halo: Nightfall content unlocked through Halo 5's beta carried over to Halo: Master Chief Collection. Or something like that.

Halo 5: Guardians' beta is available now exclusively on Xbox One for owners of Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Hopefully with all of the online issues on Xbox Live and the matchmaking issues in MCC , somehow Halo 5 comes together and gets people playing. Of course, Microsoft hasn't picked up everyone's money for Halo 5 yet, so odds are they'll put a bit of extra effort into the beta.
